"Great cabin near West Yellowstone"
Very nice, clean cabin near west Yellowstone (20 minutes). We had 10 people (adults) and fit comfortably. Great amenities, tastefully decorated, and felt like home. We were intrigued by a moose that visited the backyard on our first evening. Check-in and communication with the hosts was smooth and easy. They even left a welcome basket and had a book with everything you needed to know about the house, the area, and suggested things to do.

"Home away from home"
If you're looking for a place that feels like home, you definitely want to book the Lazy Moose Lodge! We had small children who love exploring the outdoors, and this rental was the perfect place to fill their adventurous spirits. The beds were the most comfortable we have ever slept in away from home. The bunkhouse accommodations were comfy and cozy as well. We would rent again 100% and recommend you give this one consideration. It will not disappoint.

"Great Base Camp"
We thoroughly enjoyed this comfortable home full of character while we stayed a few nights to travel to and from Yellowstone National Park (about 20 minutes away). Our large family fit comfortably, everything was clean, the kitchen is well-supplied, and there are plenty of places to sit outside. We even saw a moose in the back yard! The favorite feature may be the double laundry — two washers and two dryers!

🛣️ On Highway 20 — easy in, easy out

The lodge is positioned right on Highway 20 — the main road through Island Park and directly into West Yellowstone. That means no confusing back roads, easy delivery access, and you're already pointed toward the park every morning. Guests consistently mention how convenient the location is for running in and out of Yellowstone multiple times a day.

🦌 Wildlife right outside

Multiple guests have spotted moose wandering the backyard. You're in the heart of Island Park wildlife country — the same habitat that feeds into Yellowstone. Morning coffee with a moose sighting is a genuine possibility.

Frequently asked questions

How far is the lodge from Yellowstone?
The West Yellowstone entrance to Yellowstone National Park is approximately 20 minutes from the lodge along Highway 20 — one of the closest and most convenient private cabin options in Island Park. You can make multiple trips to the park in a single day with ease.
Is the bunkhouse always available?
The bunkhouse is open May through September (summer season), bringing capacity to 13 guests. During winter, the main lodge sleeps up to 9 guests across 4 bedrooms plus the Bison Loft. Note: the bunkhouse does not have an attached bathroom — there is a convenient ½ bath just inside the back door, about 30 feet away.
Are pets allowed?
Unfortunately pets are not permitted at Lazy Moose Lodge. Given the abundance of local wildlife — including moose, elk, and deer that regularly visit the property — it keeps the experience better for everyone.
Is 4WD required to reach the cabin?
The cabin is right on Highway 20, which is a main plowed road. In winter, 4WD or AWD is strongly recommended due to Idaho snow conditions — but the road to the property is maintained. Guest Thomas noted in winter 2023: "The roads up to the house were plowed and we didn't have any issues getting to it."
What is check-in and check-out time?
Check-in is at 4:00 PM and check-out is at 10:00 AM. Early check-in or late check-out may be available — just reach out to Jeremy & Jen directly when you book and ask.
Is there WiFi and cell service?
Yes — the lodge has fast broadband WiFi throughout. Cell service varies by carrier in Island Park; most guests find T-Mobile and AT&T work reliably. Being right on Highway 20 helps with signal compared to more remote cabins in the area.
Why book direct instead of Airbnb or VRBO?
Booking directly saves you 12–18% in platform service fees that Airbnb and VRBO add on top of the nightly rate. You also get direct access to Jeremy & Jen for personalized Yellowstone trip tips, flexible arrangements, and no hidden checkout surprises.
What should we bring or stock up on?
Sam Patch Grocery is just 5 minutes away — perfect for stocking up on arrival. The kitchen is very well-equipped with all cookware, a dishwasher, and even a rice steamer. Jeremy & Jen leave a welcome basket with local treats and a full area guide. Bring layers — Idaho mountain evenings are cool even in summer.

Save real money.

When you book through Airbnb or VRBO, you pay 15–20% in platform service fees on top of the nightly rate. That's $50–$150 extra on a typical stay that goes to a tech company — not your trip.

"Great stay! Clean, updated cabin in good location!"
We had a great stay at the lazy moose lodge. The cabin is updated and super cute. Our party was 3 families — 8 adults 3 kids. The kitchen got a little tight when all adults were in it but wasn't a big deal and it had everything we needed for our stay. We arrived to a cute welcome basket with local huckleberry items for us to try. The bunkhouse is detached from the main house and doesn't have a bathroom which we didn't realize beforehand but again no big deal. Location was great, just a short drive to Yellowstone. Overall great stay and would absolutely return if we are ever back in the area.

"Really Nice Cabin"
This cabin is spacious and very comfortable! It had a real homey feel that we loved. Love the master bedroom! And the beds were very comfy with big soft pillows. Kitchen is nice with modern appliances but could use more space for folks to store their dry goods. But we loved the big picture window in the mornings. Even though it's situated next to Hwy 20 we never heard road noise. It's a quiet neighborhood. It's about a 20 minute drive to West Yellowstone but the drive is gorgeous. Also super close to 2 Idaho State Parks we visited. My husband did a lot of flyfishing during our stay and this cabin is very close to amazing world renowned river spots for him. Would highly recommend if you don't want to be near all the noise and busyness in West Yellowstone but still want to visit the park frequently. A very nice quiet comfortable stay!

"Fantastic Spot"
The house was great. The bedroom layout is a little wonky, but totally useful. The roads up to the house was plowed and we didn't have any issues getting to it (definitely recommend 4WD). The garage is huge. One of the weekends they had closed the main road due to high winds in the valley. But other than that fantastic spot.
